When writing essays, you can convey your message more forcefully if you use more powerful words. The first column displays verbs which demonstrate conviction and purpose on the part of the writer. The essay comes in the wake of Markle's work with World Vision, an advocacy organization working to create change in global communities dealing with poverty. She's a global ambassador and a member of its . In January, the budding humanitarian traveled to India with World Vision to learn about how period stigma directly impacts girls’ access to education in developing communities. "One hundred and thirteen million adolescent girls between the ages of 12-14 in India alone are at risk of dropping out of school because of the stigma surrounding menstrual health," she writes. "During my time in the field, many girls shared that they feel embarrassed to go to school during their periods, ill equipped with rags instead of pads, unable to participate in sports, and without bathrooms available to care for themselves, they often opt to drop out of school entirely."
She continues: "When we empower girls hungry for education, we cultivate women who are emboldened to effect change within their communities and globally." That’s a regal message we can get behind. Period.
