Argumentative Essay Corporal Punishment Free Essays

Corporal punishment is the application of extra force in administering punishment. In most cases, corporal punishment is offered in prisons and in some cases in both elementary and senior schools which leads to many adverse cases such as extreme body injury or death (Soneson 37). Corporal punishment is also practiced in other areas like in slavery when a slave is working for his master or when a child being severely punished by his or her parent. The common forms of corporal punishment include using sharp objects to inflict pain, mob justice, kicking unnecessarily, punching, and hitting heavily with a blunt object. In the current times, many entities advocate for the abolition of corporal punishment by arguing that it is more harmful than helpful. So much effort has been made to counter this act and it is true to say that great achievements have been attained (Donnell and Straus 111). Corporal punishment should be banned because it leads to intense body harm in both humans and animals.

The position against corporal punishment says that it is of limited effectiveness, has potentially serious side effects, is a form of child abuse, and should be abolished in all schools.

Disadvantages Of Corporal Punishment Free Essays

Corporal punishment should not thrive in the society in whatsoever way. The government should be at the forefront in ensuring that this inhumane act is totally eradicated. People learn from their mistakes and it will be very easy for them to stay away from certain actions that caused them troubles initially (Greydanus 84). For example, when someone shop lifts from a supermarket shelf and is found red handed, the person may be subjected to public shame by the supermarket officials. After public humiliation, the person may be asked to return the goods that he or she is alleged to have stolen. On remembering the humiliation that he or she went through in the incidence, the person will try as much as possible not to involve himself or herself in another incidence of shoplifting. In this case, it would be unnecessary to offer corporal punishment which may turn out to be fatal in a case which could be solved amicably. It is evident that corporal punishment promotes disorder and violence and it is not productive in its end results. For the case of students, they are likely to revolt against their teachers when they realize that they are being punished using inappropriate methods which involve using excessive force (Holter et al 82). In such cases, series of strikes are likely to ensue in schools which will consequently hinder the learning process.
