The English word for health is derived from the old English word ‘hale’ meaning “Wholeness and wellness”, in this essay I will be exploring the different definitions, views and models of health.
By following an eating plan designed specifically for me, I will be capable of progressing toward a healthier weight, and hopefully live a longer life.
Living a healthier lifestyle increases a person’s life expectancy. If living healthy is one of the main aspects that helps society live longer, why wouldn’t someone make the choice to? I have the choice; grab an apple or a candy bar for a snack. I’m likely to feel more satisfied with more energy by choosing the apple. By choosing the apple I feel good knowing I did something helpful for my body. Most all diseases can be prevented or make them easier to manage by healthy eating, therefore increasing life expectancy. From personal experience, living healthy decreases sickness. I rarely ever get sick by simply choosing the right foods, exercising, and sleeping a minimum of eight hours.
I read an article from Shape Fit about Lori from Washington who took the steps of creating a healthy lifestyle for herself. She decided to change how she lived when life became difficult. She says, “Initially, I was depressed enough that I had decided that suicide would be a better option than living.” She said this one month before she began attending the gym regularly. She devastatingly “…was diagnosed with diabetes,” that changed her mentality of living healthy. After becoming in good shape she gained self-confidence and has continued her healthy habits.
I believe in the value of taking care of myself. Living a healthy lifestyle means choosing the healthier foods, exercising daily, and getting a decent amount of sleep. This is difficult to achieve for the majority of people in today’s society, but will make everyday tasks easier.
I have come to realize that I feel better about myself by living healthy. I choose the foods that are good for my body such as salads and fruit. I’m more energized and have motivation to achieve my personal goals. Living healthy has created many opportunities for me. Running and training for track is easier when I have the nutritional food to provide energy. After I work out I feel accomplished. I take the simple steps such as not eating out. This is often hard to do when I go to lunch with my friends, but knowing what is best, I bring my own food that will provide me with the necessary nutrition and energy to help me through my day. I work out everyday which has presented opportunities such as being invited to track invitational in Australia, the Bahamas, and states all around the country.
According to Jillian Michaels, “The right diet will regulate your blood sugar, balance your hormones, and maximize your energy, all of which promote optimal fat burning and muscle development.” None the less, one must form a platform based on healthy morals and principles in order to live life to its fullest potential....
Of course eating an ice cream sundae every once in awhile isn’t going to kill me, but taking the ladder to live healthy the majority of the time is beneficial.
