"From a combination of clinical experience, journal review, and discussion with colleagues, a structured interview was developed" to assist in the overall clinical assessment when late state Lyme disease is suspected.
There is no universally accepted test for Lyme disease. Every lab test has its advantages and disadvantages, but overall Lyme tests in Canada are largely flawed. Other labs recommended by CanLyme are all certified and accredited, run by PH.D's who simply refuse to follow flawed testing protocol. Canada has no mechanism for better testing due to bureaucratic controls that are influenced by for-profit players, and not victims and their experts.

With Lyme Disease you end up feeling so sick and weak and dizzy that sometimes you can not perform the daily tasks you need to. Showering becomes overwhelming, getting dressed, brushing your teeth, standing for any length of time becomes hard with the dizziness and pain we experience. Cooking dinner or cleaning house almost impossible. We stop being able to do these things not only for our family but for ourselves. We don't want to ask for help. This leads to feeling like a burden. Not being able to attend events. Having to constantly cancel with friends or family members puts a strain on all relationships including making you feel like a burden to your own family. Not being able to be a mom or dad and play with your kids is especially hard. The ones you were taking care of now need to stop everyting to take care of you. The guilt it relentless.

Lyme disease is most treatable during Stage 1. As time passes, both treatment and diagnosis become more difficult. Symptoms worsen during each stage of infection, ranging from flu-like symptoms to neurological illnesses, including paralysis. With chronic Lyme disease there is not one system of the body that can be unaffected… this includes various hormone production as well.
Lyme is a borreliosis caused by borrelia bacteria, which commonly infects animals like birds, mice, other small rodents, and deer. Ticks pick up the bacteria by biting infected animals, and then pass it on to other animals, including human hosts. There are many strains or genospecies of borrelia that cause Lyme disease (borreliosis) in humans just as there are many strains of the flu virus that cause flu symptoms in humans, with some strains more virulent than others.
Dr. Daniel Cameron, an epidemiologist and president of the International Lyme and Associated Diseases Society, said there is growing evidence that Lyme disease can lead to psychiatric symptoms, but the connection is not well understood. "There have been chronically ill Lyme disease patients who have been suicidal. Whether psychiatric manifestations including suicidal ideation are due to an infection or the poor quality of [life] has yet to be determined."
