The IELTE test consists of four sections; Reading, Listening, speaking & writing and its results are graded on a unique IELTS 9 band scale. IELTS test is created to demonstrate real life use of English – at work, at study or at any sphere. Listening and speaking modules are alike while the Reading and Writing Modules are different depending on whether the candidate is taking the Academic or General Training Versions of the Test.

This course provides an introduction to university studies for students who wish to attend a postsecondary institution where English is the medium of instruction. The aim of this course is to prepare students to succeed in complex academic tasks in writing and reading. This is a general academic preparatory course designed from an ESL perspective. However, it is also appropriate for native speakers of English who are in need of general academic and writing preparation.
Rhetoric, according to Aristotle, is “the art of persuasion.” This book focuses on the ways that persuasive language can be used to communicate with others through writing, particularly the writing you will do while at UNCG. Although all writing follows different conventions, the essays in this book are intended to provide you with a critical framework through which to view your own writing and the writing of others. In addition, this book will help you cultivate a deeper understanding of the writing process and the reading and writing strategies you can use in your approach to different writing contexts. The module comprises four sections of advancing complexity. The syllabus for IELTS or IELTS study guide is as follows:-
Reading: In the academic module the reading test comprises three sections, with 3 texts normally followed by 13 or 14 questions for a total of 40 questions overall. The candidates have to answer questions about main thought, details, vocabulary, articulated purpose and overall ideas.
Listening: The module comprises four sections of increasing difficulty. In this section, there are passages that include two student conversations and four academic lectures or discussions. Each conversation is heard only once. Questions in this section will be asked to decide the main ideas, important details, speaker purpose and attitude.
Speaking: The speaking test contains three sections. The first section is in the form of an interview in which candidates might be asked about their interests, hobbies, reason behind opting for the IELTS exam or any other general topic can be asked. In the second section candidates are handed over with a topic card followed by one minute to prepare for the same after which the candidate must be able to speak his views on the topic. The third section includes the discussion between the examiner and the candidate, normally on questions relating to the theme which they have already spoken about in section 2. Candidates are judged on their ability to speak spontaneously and clearly.
Writing: In the Academic module, there are two tasks: in Task 1 candidates describe a diagram, graph, process or chart and in Task 2 they respond to an argument. In the General Training module, there are also two tasks in Task 1 candidates write a letter or explain a situation and in Task 2 they write an essay.

Rhetorical Foundations seeks to answer two questions: What are we studying and why does it matter? First, we must understand the fundamental concepts of rhetoric, then the context in which we learn about rhetoric in the academy.
